Week 12 Post 3: Prevention
This week was one of my favorites because I got to focus on why I picked the topic of Clinical Psychology (specific to CTE) in the first place. I really wanted to study how we can improve the current conditions of mental health. Understanding what others and I can do to prevent CTE also provides an understanding of what we can do to help mental health as a whole. What I've found the most interesting this week is that opportunities to promote prevention are everywhere. There are multiple organizations to contribute to, so many connections to people who have experienced CTE (whether it was themselves or a family member or friend) and even just being outspoken about it when you can, like the presentation I'll be giving in January.
After giving my presentation, I hope to continue raising awareness for CTE and mental health. Raising awareness for mental disorders that go untreated is extremely important not just for individuals, but for humanity as a whole. We have been losing our youth, our future, to mental health struggles and it is causing our world to diminish. Being outspoken about mental health now is more important than ever. The goal I have made for myself is to inspire others to raise awareness as well. A domino effect in justice for mental health would be extremely beneficial, even if it is just in one community. If we, the world as a collective, work to reach out to our own communities about mental health, we can help to solve the global mental health epidemic that has caused so many people to suffer.
You have done excellent work this semester! How can you continue to raise awareness on CTE and mental health?
